NINETY SIX, S.C. - The Holy Cross women's golf team finished in seventh place at the 2008 Big South Conference Championship, held at the Patriot Golf Club. Senior Amy Lussier (Milton, Mass.) led the Crusaders, finishing in 26th place overall with a three-day score of 256. Lussier had the best-ever finish for a Holy Cross golfer at the Big South Championship, bettering the 30th place finish by Meghan Costello in 2004.
The Crusaders finished the tournament with a three-day score of 1061. Charleston Southern won the event with a three-day total of 931, while Ann Marie Dalton of High Point was the individual medalist with 229 strokes over three rounds.
Freshman Meghan Doherty (Westerly, R.I.) had an 84 in the final round to finish in 28th place overall with a three-day total of 257 strokes, while senior Ellen Lamson (South Royalton, Vt.) shot an 83 on Wednesday and placed 32nd overall with a three-round total of 268. Freshman Johanna Gavin (Hackettstown, N.J.) ended the tournament in 36th place overall (280 strokes), while freshman Megan McCarthy (Beverly, Mass.) came in 39th (310 strokes).
The Crusaders will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, April 19-20, when they will compete at the Jack Leaman Invitational. On Saturday, the competition is in Amherst, Mass., while on Sunday it is in South Hadley, Mass.
