NINETY SIX, S.C. - Sophomore Meghan Doherty (Westerly, R.I.) finished with a three-round total of 252 strokes, as the Holy Cross women's golf team claimed eighth place at the 2009 Big South Conference Championship, held at the Patriot Golf Club. Doherty shot an 83 on the third and final day of play to finish in 29th place as an individual, as the Crusaders concluded the tournament with a team total of 1,087 strokes. Coastal Carolina captured the team title with 911 strokes, while Aruka Felgueroso of Coastal Carolina was the individual medalist with a three-round total of 218.
Sophomore Johanna Gavin (Hackettstown, N.J.) had an 87 in the final round to finish in 36th place overall with a three-day total of 265 strokes, while freshman Ellie Deluca (New Caanan, Conn.) shot a 95 on Wednesday and placed 37th overall with a three-round total of 283. Sophomore Kerrin O'Leary (Milton, Mass.) ended the tournament in 38th place overall (290 strokes), while sophomore Megan McCarthy (Beverly, Mass.) came in 39th (299 strokes).
The Crusaders will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, April 18-19, when they will compete at the Jack Leaman Invitational. On Saturday, the competition is in Amherst, Mass., while on Sunday it is in South Hadley, Mass.
