Holy Cross Names Skip Guss Head Women’s Golf Coach

Head Coach Skip Guss

WORCESTER, Mass. – The College of the Holy Cross has named Skip Guss its new head women's golf coach, as announced by athletic director Richard M. Regan, Jr. Guss becomes the second head coach in the history of the women's golf program. Previous head coach Bob Molt, who has guided the team since its inception in 2000, will serve exclusively as the head men's golf coach.

"Skip Guss is very well regarded as an instructor and is one of the best teaching professionals in the area," Regan said. "Our women's golf student-athletes are fortunate to have him as their coach.  I am pleased to welcome Skip to Holy Cross and excited for our women's golf program."

Guss comes to Holy Cross with an expansive knowledge and many years of experience in the game of golf. A graduate of Arizona State University, Guss qualified for the PGA Tour in 1977 and was a member until 1978. He later became a Class A teaching professional for the PGA of America in 1982, giving more than 32,000 golf lessons since then. Guss was personally instructed by Sam Snead (World Golf Hall of Fame), Jack Grout (Jack Nicklaus' life-long instructor) and Peter Kostis (CBS golf analyst).

"I am humbled, honored and excited to be named the head coach for the women's golf team at Holy Cross," Guss said. "As head coach, I want to help the players reach their fullest potential, build a team that current student-athletes, alumni and the Holy Cross community are extremely proud of and to also develop a winning tradition."

Recently, Guss was a qualifying medalist and participant in the 2005 United States Senior Open and was the winner of the 2005 Rhode Island Senior Open. Over the course of his professional golf career, Guss has won over 30 individual tournaments.

Guss is the owner of the GolfRite Performance Center in Southborough, Mass., where he provides personalized instruction and video lessons to his clients. His former students include LPGA, PGA and Champions Tour tournament winners as well as a U.S. Amateur champion and a Walker Cup member.

The women's golf team opens the 2013-2014 season with a tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 7, at Wellesley with Merrimack.
