PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Holy Cross sophomore co-captain Morgan Powers (Glastonbury, Conn.) carded a two-day total of 164 strokes (+20) to help the women's golf team capture the Nazareth Invitational held at the Monroe and Mendon Country Clubs on Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28. Powers claimed the tournament medalist as the Crusaders shot a combined team score of 713 strokes (+137).
The University of Ottawa finished in second place (764), while St. John's Fisher (770) and Nazareth (811) placed in third and fourth, respectively. Elmira came in fifth with a total score of 860 as Houghton rounded out the field at 941 strokes.
In addition to Powers for Holy Cross, freshman Marisa Cameron (Garden City, N.Y.) finished in fourth place with a two-round score of 176 (+32). Senior co-captain Kelly Reagan (Mendota Heights, Minn.) placed sixth with a total sum of 185 strokes (+41), while freshman Lydia Deneen (Hubbardston, Mass.) carded a 188 (+44), which placed her in eighth.
This is the first multi-team tournament win in Holy Cross women's golf history as the only other victory came in a dual match versus Babson on October 14, 2001. Powers also claimed the first women's golf medalist honors in school history, as her previous best finish was second at the Hartford Invitational on April 15-16, 2013.
The Holy Cross women's golf team has concluded the 2012-2013 season.
