Women's Golf Set To Start Spring Slate

Schedule: Saturday-Sunday March 31-April 1, Hawk Invitational, Lakewood, N.J., All Day

  • The Holy Cross women's golf team begins the spring portion of the 2011-2012 season when it competes in the Hawk Invitational, hosted by Monmouth from March 31-April 1. The event will be held at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Lakewood, N.J. Par is 72 with a yardage of 6,054.
  • This is the first time Holy Cross has competed in the Hawk Invitational in recent history. A total of seven teams competed in the 2011 tournament, with Hofstra taking home the team title. Host Monmouth finished second.
  • Senior captain Ellie Deluca (New Canaan, Conn.) led the squad individually for the first time this season at the team?s last event, the Sacred Heart Fall Classic, finishing in 25th place. She completed the fall slate with an 87.5 strokes average and played in all eight rounds. Her lowest round of the season was a 78, coming at the Mount Holyoke Invitational.
  • Freshman Morgan Powers (Glastonbury, Conn.) finished the fall as the squad's top golfer. She played in all eight rounds and combined for 691 total strokes. She averaged 86.4 strokes and recorded a season-low round of 77 at the Mount Holyoke Invitational. She was the team's top performer in three of the four fall events.
