Women's Golf Begins Fall Competition This Weekend
Schedule: Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 17-18 at Dartmouth Invitational, Hanover, N.H., All Day
- The Holy Cross women's golf team opens their season at the Dartmouth Invitational at Hanover Country Club in Hanover, N.H. Last year, the Crusaders placed 17th out of 20 schools in the event with a combined score of 692. 2011 senior Meghan Doherty led Holy Cross with a score of 165, which was good for a 34th place finish.
- Shortly after the completion of last season, seniors Ellie Deluca (New Caanan, Conn.) and Lauren McCarthy (Beverly, Mass.) were named 2011-2012 team captains. Deluca has played in 21 of 22 competitions during her career here on the Hill. Last year, she ranked second on the team with an 88.7 average as her 15.5 rounds played were tied for first. McCarthy earned 2009-2010 Big South Conference Presidential Honor Roll accolades. She has played in four rounds during her career.
- The squad returns one other player who competed last season, junior Kelly Reagan (Mendota Heights, Minn.). Reagan finished her sophomore season playing in just over 15 rounds and averaged 95 strokes per round. She was also named to the 2011 Big South Academic Honor Roll.
- Two freshmen join the squad for the 2011-2012 campaign. Newcomers Tara Buchanan (Haymarket, Va.) and Morgan Powers (Glastonbury, Conn.) will add depth to a team that has six upperclassmen on its nine-deep roster.
