Women's Golf Concludes 2010-2011 Season

  • The Holy Cross women's golf team completed its season with two tournaments this past week, competing in the 2011 Big South Championship and the Jack Leaman Championship. Senior Meghan Doherty (Westerly, R.I.) led the squad in both events, tying for 35th at the Big South and then placing ninth at the Jack Leaman.
  • Doherty concludes her career as the team's top golfer since her freshman season. She has led the squad in all outings this season and has led the team in 10 straight outings, dating back to the 2010 Jack Leaman Championship, held April 17-18, 2010. Doherty also led the Crusaders in every event during the 2008-2009 season and has been the team's top performer in 22 events since her freshman year. She had the team's lowest stroke average in every season but her first year as she finishes her senior season with an 83.2 average, marking a career-low.
  • The squad tallied their best performance of the season at the Mount Holyoke Invitational, scoring a total of 671 strokes in two rounds. They placed eighth overall and were led by Doherty's 10th place finish. Senior Johanna Gavin (Hackettstown, N.J.) and junior Ellie Deluca (New Canaan, Conn.) recorded their lowest scores of the season, scoring rounds of 81 and 83 respectively.
  • A total of five seniors wrapped up their golf careers this past weekend. Along with Doherty and Gavin, seniors Kerrin O'Leary (Milton, Mass.), Sarah Dyer (Phoenix, Md.) and Megan McCarthy (Beverly, Mass.) will all graduate in May. Dyer played two rounds this season while McCarthy played in her final round at the Jack Leaman Invitational, scoring a 203.
