NINETY SIX, S.C. – Senior Meghan Doherty (Westerly, R.I.) finished with a three-round score of 252 as the Holy Cross women's golf team took eighth place at the 2011 Big South Conference Championship, held at the Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C. Doherty shot an 86 on the third and final day of play to finish tied for 35th place individually. The Crusaders finished the competition with a total of 1,063 strokes as Coastal Carolina won the championship with 912 strokes.
Junior Ellie Deluca (New Canaan, Conn.) came in second on the team, placing 39th overall with a three-day total of 267 strokes. Senior Johanna Gavin (Hackettstown, N.J.) followed with a round of 88 on Wednesday, placing 40th overall with a three-round total of 268. Senior Kerrin O'Leary (Milton, Mass.) ended the tournament in 42nd place overall (281 strokes), while sophomore Kelly Reagan (Mendota Heights, Minn.) came in 43rd (290 strokes). Coastal Carolina's Jessica Alexander bounced back to win the individual title with 225 strokes.
The Crusaders will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, April 16-17, competing at the Jack Leaman Invitational. On Saturday, the competition is in Amherst, Mass., while on Sunday it is in South Hadley, Mass.
