Women's Golf Takes Eighth At Mount Holyoke Invitational
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Senior Meghan Doherty (Westerly, R.I.) tied her career-low round of 77 in the first round and finished with an 81 as the Holy Cross women's golf team took eighth place at the Mount Holyoke Invitational, held at the Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Mass. The Crusaders finished the competition with a total of 671 strokes as Doherty tied for 10th place individually.
Doherty combined for 158 strokes to lead the team individually. Fellow senior Johanna Gavin (Hackettstown, N.J.) followed Doherty with a two-round score of 168 to finish in a tie for 36th while junior Ellie Deluca (New Canaan, Conn) marked a 172 to tie for 39th. Rounding out the scores for Holy Cross was a 173 from senior Kerrin O'Leary (Milton, Mass.) and a 185 by sophomore Kelly Reagan (Mendota Heights, Minn.). Williams' Emily Wickstrom took the individual crown with 149 total strokes.
Williams won the invitational with 615 strokes and had two players finish within the top five individually. New York University (641 strokes) and Amherst College (642) rounded out the top three.
The Crusaders are next in action on Oct. 3-4 at the ECAC Championship. The event will be held at the Twisted Dune Golf Club in Egg Harbor, N.J.
