Women's Golf Finishes Fall Slate With Fifth Place Performance At CCSU Invite
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Holy Cross junior Meghan Doherty (Westerly, R.I.) rounded out the fall season on a high note, leading her team with a 13th place individual finish as the Holy Cross women's golf team placed fifth at the Central Connecticut Fall Invitational Sunday. Doherty finished with a two-round score of 169 and Holy Cross combined for a team total of 704.
Doherty's outing was her third-consecutive team-leading performance. Also notching a solid showing for the Crusaders was sophomore Ellie Deluca (New Canaan, Conn.), who finished tied for 17th with a 173. Junior Johanna Gavin (Hackettstown, N.J.) marked a 182 in a tie for 26th while fellow junior Kerrin O'Leary (Milton, Mass.) notched a 187and freshman Kelly Reagan (Mendota Heights, Minn.) finished with a 188 to round out the Holy Cross scoring.
Winning the team crown was Hartford, who combined for a 645. Hartford also had the two leading performers in Sarah Sideranko and Emily Linn who tied with a tournament-best two-round score of 160. Brown placed second with a 663 and was followed by Fairfield (667), Siena (680), Holy Cross (704), host Central Connecticut (719) and St. Francis (766).
This weekend's tournament marks the final fall outing for the Holy Cross women's golf team. The team will have a break before returning to practice and preparing for the 2009-2010 spring slate. The schedule will be released at a later date.
