WELLESLEY, Mass. - Wellesley's second annual Ann S. Batchelder Golf Invitational was shortened to a one-day tournament due to inclimate weather Saturday afternoon with the Holy Cross women's golf team finishing in sixth place. Junior Meaghan Doherty (Westerly, R.I.) led the team with a two-round score of 86.
Doherty also was the Crusaders' lone top-10 individual performer, tying for ninth place. Also competing for the team's combined performance of 375 was sophomore Ellie Deluca (New Canaan, Conn.), who placed 22nd with a 93. Junior Johanna Gavin (Hackettstown, N.J.) followed with 95 while fellow junior Kerrin O'Leary (Milton, Mass) scored a 101 and freshman Kelly Reagan (Mendota Heights, Minn.) rounded out the Holy Cross individual scores with a 104.
Individually, Vassar's Alex Bello (Avon Lake, OH) earned medalist honors for the second straight year. The sophomore recorded a round of 79 to defend her title. Williams took the team crown with a combined score of 337. Amherst took second place in the event with a 341. . Vassar took third overall with a 351 while the hosts finished fourth with a 359. Rounding out the team scoring, Mount Holyoke finished fifth (362), Holy Cross took sixth (375) and William Smith placed seventh (401).
Holy Cross will complete fall competition at the Central Connecticut Fall Invitational held Oct. 24-25 in New Britain, Conn. Tee times have not yet been established.
