WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's golf program has named juniors Meghan Doherty (Westerly, R.I.) and Johanna Gavin (Hackettstown, N.J.) as 2009-2010 team captains.
Doherty led the team last season with an 83.3 average and had the best score for Holy Cross in all seven competitions. She finished 29th place at the Big South Championship, totaling a score of 252 over three rounds. In addition to her achievements on the course, Doherty was selected to the 2009 Big South All-Academic team for her work in the classroom. As a freshman, she was named the Big South Golfer of the Week once and was a member of the Big South Presidential Honor Roll. Over the course of her career, Doherty has had the best score for the Crusaders in 11 out of the 13 events in which she has competed.
Gavin ranked second on the team last season with an average of 88.5. She had the second best score for the Crusaders as she placed 36th at the Big South Championship with a three-round total of 265. She also had the second best score for Holy Cross in four tournaments last season. As a freshman she was fourth on the team with an 89.8 average.
Coach Bob Molt also congratulates the seniors who just graduated, Flynn Govern, Alicia Molt and Elisabeth Sexton. "I want to send my gratitude and thanks to Flynn, Alicia and Elisabeth for the great job they did as captains of the team," said Molt.
