Holy Cross Places Five on All-League Teams

Worcester, Mass. - The Patriot League named five Holy Cross field hockey players to its All-League teams, as announced by the league this afternoon. Senior co-captain Cat Kerman (Glens Falls, N.Y.), senior defender Caitlin Moynihan (Rye, N.Y.), and junior forward Jenna Cook (Walpole, Mass.), were named to the All-League First Team. Junior goalie Sony Kuhn (Cincinnati, Ohio), and sophomore forward Tara Welch (New Boston, N.H.) were named to the Second Team.

Kerman, the team's top defensive midfielder, earned a spot on the First Team for the first time in her career. A two-time Second Team selection (2003, 2002), Kerman started all 18 games for the Crusaders this season, and is first on the team in tackles (56), and second on the team in interceptions (71). She has also contributed offensively with two goals and three assists for seven points, good for fifth on the team. For her career, Kerman has 247 interceptions, and is the only Holy Cross senior who has started every game (75) throughout her four-year career.

Moynihan earned her first career league honor by being named to the All-League First Team this season. Moynihan anchored the Holy Cross defense, which was 19th best in the country this year. The native of Rye, NY started all 18 Crusader games this season and has tallied 86 interceptions and 37 tackles. For her career, Moynihan has 257 interceptions and more than 100 tackles.

Cook was named to the league's First Team for the second consecutive season. The junior forward leads the team in total points (33), and assists (9). She is also second on the team in goals (12), three of which were game-winners. Cook stands among League leaders in eight different categories, with her top ranking at second in assists.

Kuhn was voted to the All-League squad the first time in her career. The junior goalkeeper has been solid in net for the Crusaders all season long. She currently leads the league in shutouts (8), and has four more than any other PL goaltender. She is also tops in save percentage (.830). The two-time PL Defensive Player of the Week, and ECAC Goaltender of the Week ranks third nationally in save percentage, the best individual showing in the League. Kuhn is also ranked 19th nationally in goals against average.

Welch was also named to the All-League team for the first time in her short career. The sophomore forward leads the Crusaders in goals (14), four of which have been game-winners, and ranks second in total points (31). She has also chipped in three assists. The September 13th PL Offensive Player of the Week joins Cook among the top offensive threats in the League. She ranks second in goals and goals per game (0.82), fourth in points and fifth in points per game (1.82).

Holy Cross finished its regular season with an 11-7-0 overall record. The Crusaders took third place in the Patriot League with a 3-2 conference record. The third-seeded Crusaders will face second-seeded Colgate in the first round of the Patriot League tournament on Saturday, Novemeber 6th. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
