Worcester, Mass. - Holy Cross field hockey player Laura Cohen (Summit, N.J.) has been named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, for games through October 9, as announced by league officials this afternoon. This is Cohen's first conference award of the season.
A junior forward, Cohen led Holy Cross to two wins this past weekend after tallying three goals and one assist (seven points) in a two game span. Cohen sparked the Crusaders on Saturday, scoring two first half goals, the second of which was the game-winner, to lead Holy Cross to an important 3-1 victory over Lehigh. In Sunday's 5-4 come-from-behind win over Dartmouth, she scored on a penalty corner with just 12:13 remaining in the contest, giving Holy Cross its first lead (4-3) of the game. She then assisted on what would be the game-winning goal with 6:27 left in the game.
Holy Cross' five goals against Dartmouth on Sunday tied a season-high (5-1 win over Siena in August). The Crusaders were down 3-1 at the half and came back to score four consecutive second half goals, to take the lead and eventually win the game.
Cohen has started in all 13 Holy Cross games this season and is tied for first in the Patriot League in goals (nine). She is also tied for fourth in the conference in points (21).
Holy Cross has now won two straight games and is 7-6 overall and 2-0 in Patriot League play. The Crusaders travel to Bucknell on Saturday, October 15 for a 12:00 p.m. match-up with the Bison in Lewisburg, Pa.
