Singleton and Whelan Honored by League

WORCESTER, Mass. - Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Singleton (Amesbury, Mass.) has been chosen as the Patriot League field hockey goalkeeper of the week for the second consecutive week and senior Susie Whelan (Acton, Mass.) was selected the Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 24.
Singleton allowed just one goal this week in wins against New Hampshire and Fairfield. She recorded her third shutout of the season and her career fourth in the game against New Hampshire. Singleton had nine saves in the two wins this week and her 1.31 goals against average and .767 save percentage are first in the Patriot League.
Whelan has been the leader in the back field that only allowed one goal last week and shutout New Hampshire, 2-0. The shutout is the third of the season for the Crusaders, who lead the Patriot League with a 1.33 goals against average. Whelan has two goals and five assists on the season.
The Crusaders have won their last four games allowing just three goals to their 19. Holy Cross is 6-3 overall and will play their first conference game Saturday when they host Lafayette at 12:00 p.m.
