Worcester, Mass. - Senior Laura Cohen made her first goal of her season count as Holy Cross field hockey defeated Quinnipiac 3-2 Tuesday night at the Hart Astroturf. Cohen scored the game winner with 3:08 left on the clock to give Holy Cross its first victory of the season.
The Crusaders took the lead just 7:58 into the game with a goal from senior Tara Welsh. Early in the second half, Welsh scored the second goal of the game to give Holy Cross the 2-0 lead over Quinnipiac.
Quinnipiac fought back in the second half with back to back goals scored by Jamie Cassese (with 23:12 left in the game) and Jennifer Kinchla (at 20:14 on the clock). The game remained knotted at 2-2 until Cohen scored the unassisted goal to give the Crusaders the victory.
Holy Cross goalkeeper Erin Singleton stopped five shots to earn the win. Jenna Grossman made two saves for the Bobcats.
Holy Cross begins the season with a 1-0 record while Quinnipiac starts off 0-1.
The Crusaders host Albany in a non-conference match-up on Saturday, September 2, at noon.
