WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team was voted second by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors in this season's Patriot League preseason poll, as announced today by league officials. American finished first in the poll with 50 total points and 10 first place votes, followed by the Crusaders with 42 points and two first place votes. Bucknell (32 points), Colgate (22 points), Lehigh (19 points) and Lafayette (15 points) rounded out the voting.
Holy Cross is coming off a 2005 season in which it went 10-10 overall and placed third in the Patriot League with a 3-2 mark in conference games. The Crusaders return eight starters and 12 letterwinners from that squad, including four of the top five scorers on the team.
Holy Cross will open the 2006 season on Tuesday, August 29, when it plays host to Quinnipiac at 7:00 p.m. Patriot League play will begin on Saturday, September 30, when the Crusaders play host to Lafayette at 12:00 p.m.
