Worcester, Mass. - Holy Cross junior field hockey player Sony Kuhn (Cincinnati, Ohio) and senior ice hockey player Meghan Mahoney (Utica, N.Y.) have been named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I Team, as announced by the CoSida committee this afternoon. Kuhn was named to the First Team, while Mahoney was a Second Team selection for the District I Women's At Large squad.
After a standout season in the cage for the Crusaders, Kuhn was voted to the Patriot League Second Team for the first time in her career. The junior goalkeeper led the League in shutouts (8) and shutouts per game (0.42) and finished second in goals against average (1.47). In addition, she ranked fourth in both saves (126) and saves per game (6.63). A two-time Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, and ECAC Goaltender of the Week, Kuhn finished the season ranked seventh nationally in save percentage (0.818) and 19th nationally in saves (126). She guided the Crusaders to an 11-8 overall mark last season and a third place finish in the Patriot League.

Mahoney is a three-time ECAC East All-Conference selection and a three-time ECAC East All-Academic Team pick, earning Academic All-American honors her sophomore year. This season, Mahoney became the first Holy Cross women's ice hockey player to break the 100 career-point mark when she assisted on the game-winning goal in a 3-2 overtime victory against UMass Boston on Jan. 7. Named to the ECAC All-Rookie Team as a freshman, Mahoney played in 102 games throughout her career and amassed 45 goals and 61 assists for 106 career points from the defensive line. She led the team in assists (16) and added six goals for 22 points, while serving as team captain this year.
An English major with a 3.88 cumulative GPA, Mahoney holds several Holy Cross women's ice hockey records, including goals in a single season (23), career points (106) and career assists (61). She is also ranked third for points in a single season (41).
