Hanover, N.H. - Allison Welsh and Ashley Choren each scored to lead the Dartmouth field hockey team to a 2-1 win over Holy Cross in a non-conference game on Sunday afternoon at Scully-Fahey Field. Holy Cross falls to 10-7 on the season, while Dartmouth ups its record to 7-9.
The Crusaders jumped out to a 1-0 lead when junior Jenna Cook (Walpole, Mass.) drew Big Green keeper Lauren Balukjian out of the net and found a wide-open Tara Welch (New Boston, N.H.) in front to put the visitors up with 11:40 left in the first. But with seven seconds remaining before halftime, Welsh flicked a shot over the head of Crusader keeper Sony Kuhn (Cincinnati, Ohio) to tie the game at one just before the break.
Holy Cross had a chance to go ahead eight minutes into the second half, but senior Cat Kerman's attempt (Glens Falls, N.Y.) hit the post. And with just 4:51 remaining in regulation, Choren beat Kuhn for the game-winner.
For the game, Dartmouth outshot the Crusaders, 12-8. Kuhn made six stops for the Crusaders, while her Big Green counterpart, Balukjian, made four saves on the day.
Holy Cross returns to action on Tuesday, November 2, when they host Brown in its final tune up for the Patriot League tournament. Game time is 5 p.m.
