Bethlehem, Pa. - Junior Jenna Cook scored a goal and added an assist as the Holy Cross field hockey team defeated Lehigh University, 2-0 in a Patriot League contest on Saturday. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 6-3 (1-1), while the Mountain Hawks slip to 5-6 (0-1). Holy Cross got the only goal they would need with just two minutes remaining in the first half when Cook (Walpole, Mass.) took a Laura Potts pass and beat Lehigh goalkeeper Meghan Gove for her seventh goal of the season. Fifty-seven seconds later, sophomore Meg Ryan (Lake Forest, Ill.) gave the Crusaders an insurance goal on her first career collegiate tally. Ryan collected a pass from Cook and found the back of the net for a 2-0 Holy Cross lead with 1:03 remaining in the half.
Lehigh recorded 17 penalty corners to Holy Cross' five, but the Mountain Hawks could not capitalize inside the crease. Both teams registered 14 shots on the afternoon.
Holy Cross junior goalkeeper Sony Kuhn made 10 saves to record her 4th shutout of the season. Lehigh's Gove had 7 saves in 35:00 of play and split time with Jeanine Hoff who came in to record 2 stops in the second-half.
The Crusaders continue their Patriot League schedule when they host Bucknell in a noon-time tilt on Holy Cross' Homecoming weekend, next Saturday, October 9th.
