Worcester, Mass. - Sabrina Lazzari scored a goal and assisted on two others to lift #12 Boston College over Holy Cross, 3-2 in a non-conference game on Wednesday night at the Hart Astro Turf. Boston College improves to 7-3, while Holy Cross drops to 5-3. The loss marks the first time all season the Crusaders have dropped two straight. Sara York got the Eagles on the board first after she tipped a Lazzari pass just over a diving Sony Kuhn (Cincinnato, Ohio) in the 28th minute. But just over two minutes later, senior co-captain Cat Kerman (Glens Falls, N.Y.) blasted a shot past BC goalkeeper Jillian Savoy to tie the game at one apiece. The two teams played evenly throughout the first half, both registering 6 shots on goal. The Eagles kept a slight edge on penalty corners (5-2), but the score remained 1-1 at the half.
In the second, BC freshman Crystal Frates put the visitors up 2-1 after she beat Kuhn on yet another pass from Lazzari. The Eagles then scored what proved to be the winning goal when Lazzari lifted a shot over Kuhn's head and into the back of the net to record her 11th goal of the season.
The Crusaders fought their way back into the game and cut the BC lead down to one when sophomore Tara Welch (New Boston, N.H.) scored her 8th goal of the season off of a Kerman pass. Holy Cross had limited chances to find the equalizer, and the BC defense held on to keep the Crusaders at bay and close out the game.
Kuhn recorded 9 saves on the night for the Crusaders, while Savoy made seven saves for the Eagles.
Holy Cross is back in action on Saturday, October 2nd when they travel to Lehigh for their second Patriot League game of the season. Game time is 1 p.m.
