Field Hockey Tops Maine, 1-0

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior forward Kristin Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) scored the lone goal and senior goalkeeper Erin Singleton (Amesbury, Mass.) earned a shutout in their last career game as the Holy Cross field hockey team edged Maine, 1-0, closing out the Crusaders' 2008 season.
Less than two minutes remaining in the first half, at the 33:11 mark, junior Kaitlyn Barnes (Honesdale, Pa.) made a quick pass to Schulz from the left side of the circle who sent a low shot off Black Bears' goalkeeper Brittany Fleck pads and into the right corner of the cage. Schulz finished her senior season leading Holy Cross in scoring with 10 goals and five assists for 25 points.
Singleton made six saves and earned her second shutout of the season while Fleck had five stops for Maine. Singleton finishes the season with a 7-11 record, 153 saves and two shutouts.
Holy Cross concludes the 2008 season with an overall record of 7-11 and 2-3 in the Patriot League.
