WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior forward Kristin Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) and sophomore midfielder Alanna Sikorski (Glen Gardiner, N.J.) scored a goal and recorded an assist each as the Holy Cross field hockey team edged Bucknell, 3-2, in double overtime in Patriot League play at the Hart Turf Field. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 6-11 overall (2-3 Patriot League) while the Bison fall to 10-7 (2-3 Patriot League).
Less than three minutes into the first half, at the 2:14 mark, Holy Cross' offense took advantage of a penalty corner as Schulz made a quick pass to Sikorski who made a low shot into the cage, making the score, 1-0. Less than eight minutes later, at the 9:29 mark, Sikorski passed the ball to sophomore forward Kara Gonnerman (St. Louis, Mo.) who chipped the ball into the goal cage, giving the Crusaders a 2-0 advantage.
Just under four minutes into the second half, at the 38:48 mark, Bucknell's Katie Ruiz sneaked a shot into the right side of the Crusader goal, making the score, 2-1. Less than 10 minutes later, at the 48:23 mark, Emily Hutchinson tied up the game, 2-2, after making a successful penalty stroke.
With less than 30 seconds counted down on the clock in the second overtime period, at the 14:26 mark, Schulz made a low pass into the right side of the Bison cage, scoring the game-winning goal, for 3-2 final score.
Senior goalkeeper Erin Singleton (Amesbury, Mass.) made 11 stops for the Crusaders while Bucknell's Jessie Atieh made two stops.
Holy Cross returns to action on Sunday, November 2, with its final game of the season, hosting Maine at 1:00 p.m.
