WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision to Brown at the Hart Turf Field on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss the Crusaders fall to 5-11 on the season while the Bears improve to 4-11.
Brown struck first, just 12 minutes into the first half, at the 11:27 mark when Victoria Sacco made an unassisted goal off a penalty corner.
Less than 10 minutes later, at the 29:10 mark, senior Jessie Cullen (Norwich, Vt.) grabbed a rebound off a penalty corner and scored in the low right corner, evening the score, 1-1, heading into halftime.
Just under 10 minutes into the second half, at the 45:07 mark, Nora Malgieri passed the ball from the left side of the circle to Zysk, who chipped a shot into the right corner of the goal, making the score 2-1. Less than five minutes later, at the 49:12 mark, Leslie Springmeyer made a quick pass to Zysk, who shot it into the right corner, lifting the Bears to a 3-1 lead.
With less than six minutes in the game, at the 64:22 mark, Holy Cross senior Kristin Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) passed the ball to junior Courtney Callahan (Acton, Mass.) who chipped the ball into the cage, bringing the Crusaders within one goal of the Bears. It was not enough though, as the Crusaders fell 3-2.
Senior goalkeeper Erin Singleton (Amesbury, Mass.) made 11 saves for the Crusaders while Caroline Washburn had three stops for Brown.
The Crusaders return to action at the Hart Turf Field on Saturday, November 1, when they host Patriot League opponent Bucknell at 12:00 p.m.
