WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior Tara Welch (New Boston, N.H.) scored the first goal of the game but it was not enough as Brown scored three goals on corners to defeat Holy Cross, 3-1, in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Hart Turf. This is the first lost for the Crusaders since September 10 after setting a new program record of ten consecutive wins. The Crusaders now drop to 12-4 overall, while the Bears improve to 9-5 on the season.
With a little over six minutes into the game Welch scored her 15th goal of the season and 55th of her career off a pass from senior Laura Cohen (Summit, N.J.). Brown answered right back, as Victoria Sacco scored on a corner off a pass from Stacy Gugliotta. With a little less than three minutes to go in the half, Brown's Tracy Dungo scored on another corner to go into the break with a 2-1 lead that they would not relinquish.
Freshmen goalkeeper Kelly Casey (New Egypt, N.J.) made three saves in the loss. Holy Cross out shot Brown 11-8.
Prior to the start of the game, seniors Cohen, Welch and Susie Whelan (Acton, Mass.) were honored for their hard work and dedication to the team on and off the field over the past four years.
Holy Cross returns to action this Saturday at noon when they travel to Washington, D.C to face-off against Patriot League rival American for the No. 1 seed and the right to host the Patriot League Championship.
