WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior Tara Welch (New Boston, N.H.) scored the game winning goal as Holy Cross edged Bucknell 2-1 in conference play Saturday at Hart Turf Field to win their 10th consecutive game of the season and remain undefeated in the conference.
Bucknell scored first at 9:52 off a rebound from a corner. The Bison held off Holy Cross' offense until a corner in the 19th minute of the first half when Welch scored off a rebound to tie the game.
The game remained tied going into the second half until Welch scored again on another corner rebound for her 14th goal of the season and her 54th career goal, an all-time high at Holy Cross.
Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Singleton (Amesbury, Mass.) had four stops for the Crusaders. Holy Cross out shot Bucknell 14-7.
The Crusaders improve to 12-3 overall and 4-0 in the conference while Bucknell falls to 6-7 on the season and 1-3 in the league.
Holy Cross will host Brown in non-conference action Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. The seniors will be honored prior to the game as it will be their last regular season home match.
