Field Hockey Falls To Colgate, 4-3

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Sophomore Kara Gonnerman (St. Louis, Mo.) scored two goals but it was enough as the Holy Cross field hockey team dropped a 4-3 decision to Colgate in Patriot League play on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Crusaders are now 4-9 (0-3 Patriot League) while the Raiders improve to 9-6 (2-1 Patriot League).

Less than 17 minutes into the first half, at the 16:45 mark, Gonnerman got a clear shot into the goal cage among the scrum in Colgate's territory.

Less than 13 minutes later, at the 28:16 mark, Lauren Carey scored an unassisted goal, evening the score, 1-1, going into halftime.

Just nine minutes into the second half, at the 44:56, sophomore Alanna Sikorski (Glen Gardner, N.J.) passed the ball to Gonnerman who shot the ball past Colgate goalkeeper Sarah Pedersen, giving the Crusaders a 2-1 lead. Less than five minutes later, at the 48:35 mark, senior Kristin Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) made an unassisted goal, making the score 3-1.

Colgate's offense exploded in the final 20 minutes of the game as Mika Ella-Tang, Carey, and Lauren Denenga each scored a goal, lifting the Raiders to a 4-3 victory.

Senior goalkeeper Erin Singleton (Amesbury, Mass.) had six saves while Pedersen had eight stops.

Holy Cross returns to action on Sunday, October 19, as it travels to Syracuse for a game at 1:00 p.m.
