WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior Kristin Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) scored the overtime game-winner in the 76th minute as the Holy Cross field hockey team edged Stanford, 2-1, on Monday afternoon at the Hart Turf Field. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 4-6 overall while Stanford falls to 3-9.
Just under five minutes into the first half, at the 4:43 mark, a scrum in from of the Cardinal goal cage allowed Schulz to find an open shot into the bottom right corner, making the score, 1-0.
Less than 10 minutes later, at the 14:49 mark, Stanford's Xanthe Travelos fought through a scramble in the circle, tipping a shot into the left corner of the goal, evening the score, 1-1.
Just under six minutes into overtime, at the 75:22 mark, freshman Jamie Caniglia (Wayne, Pa.) made a pass to Schulz who chipped the ball past Cardinal goalkeeper Alessandra Moss.
Senior goalkeeper Erin Singleton (Amesbury, Mass.) made seven saves for the Crusaders while Moss tallied five stops.
Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, October 11, at 12:00 p.m., hosting Lafayette in a Patriot League contest
