NEW YORK, N.Y. - Columbia University's Julia Garrison and Lauren Hanna each scored a goal lifting the Lions to a 2-0 non-conference victory against Holy Cross. The Crusaders fall to 3-8, 1-0 in the Patriot League, while Columbia improved to 4-5, 0-2 in the Ivy League.
Garrison, recording her second goal of the season, made a backhanded shot in front of the net, putting the ball past Crusader goalkeeper Erin Singleton (Amesbury, Mass.) to put Columbia ahead, 1-0, with 11:39 left in the first half.
With 12:11 remaining in the game, a pass from Christine Buszczak to Hanna resulted in her second goal of the season, giving the Lions a 2-0 final over Holy Cross.
Singleton made six saves for the Crusaders while Columbia's Gena Miller had four saves, recording her second shutout of the season.
Holy Cross hosts its next two games starting with Colgate on Saturday, October 6, for a Patriot League contest at 12:00 p.m. and Yale on Sunday, October 7 at 3:00 p.m.
