FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Senior Tara Welch (New Boston, N.H.) scores two goals to break the school record for career goals as Holy Cross defeats Fairfield, 4-1 in non-conference action Sunday.
Welch goes one ahead of Michele Gagne who set the career goal record at 48 in 1995. Last year Welch had 19 goals, the most goals in a season in Holy Cross field hockey history. At the completion of her junior year she was nine short of having the most career goals and has scored those goals in the first nine games of this season.
Welch scored the first and fourth goals of the game as Sara O'Coin (Worcester, Mass.) scored the second and third. O'Coin's goals were assisted by Carolyn Connelly (Greenland, N.H.) and Welch. O'Coin also assisted on Welch's first goal and Laura Cohen (Summit, N.J.) had the other assist.
Sophomore goalkeeper, Erin Singleton (Amesbury, Mass.) had five saves and faced 10 shots in goal for Holy Cross.
The Crusaders improve to 6-3 overall while Fairfield drops to 2-7 on the season.
Holy Cross will host Lafayette Saturday for their first Patriot League game of the season at 12:00 p.m.
