LOUNDONVILLE, N.Y. - Junior Courtney Callahan (Acton, Mass.) scored back-to-back second half goals as the Holy Cross field hockey team downed Siena, 3-1, in non-conference action at Siena Turf Field. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 2-5 on the season while the Saints fall to 0-6.
In the first half, at the 18:49 mark, senior Kristin Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) grabbed the ball off a rebound of a previous shot in front of the cage, shooting it past Siena's goalkeeper Renee Clavette, giving the Crusaders a 1-0 lead.
Just under six minutes into the second half, at the 40:31 mark, the Saints' Sarah Szewczyk scored after grabbing a rebound from senior goalkeeper Erin Singleton (Amesbury, Mass.), assisted by Kristin McGorty.
Less than four minutes later, at the 45:16 mark, the Crusaders took advantage of a penalty corner as Callahan snuck a shot around Clavette, assisted by Schulz and sophomore Alanna Sikorski (Glen Gardner, N.J.). Just 2:07 later, Callahan scored her second goal of the game Callahan grabbing a rebound of a save from Clavette, making the score 3-1.
Singleton made two saves for the Crusaders while the Clavette had nine saves while Jennifer Tesak had 10 saves.
Holy Cross returns to action hosting Quinnipiac on Friday, September 26 at 7:00 p.m.
