Worcester, Mass. - Holy Cross Women's Field Hockey team exploded out of the gate to a 7-0 halftime lead as Holy Cross defeated Siena, 10-2 in non-conference action, on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Astroturf.

Seniors Laura Cohen (Summit, N.J.) and Susie Whelan (Acton, Mass.) combined to score four goals and three assists to lead the Crusaders. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 3-3 overall, while the Saints fall to 0-4 overall. The 10 goals set a new team record for most goals in a game.

Holy Cross got on the board first when junior Katie Rowlenson (Webster, N.H.) scored her first goal of the season off a pass from junior Eli Skovron (Exeter, N.H.).

Holy Cross expanded their lead only a minute later when Whelan found Cohen for Cohen's first of three goals on the day. Whelan then scored her second goal of the season at the 15:10 mark off a penalty shot.

Before the half was over, Holy Cross would get four more goals from Cohen, senior Tara Welch (New Boston, N.H.), junior Sara O'Coin (Worcester, Mass.), and sophomore Kristin Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.).

The Crusaders continued the run into the second half with scores from Cohen and O'Coin. Siena got on the board with 18:47 left in the game on a Caroline Hunnewell (Lebanon, N.H.) pass to Hanna Lestrange (Worcester, Mass.).

Crusader Freshmen Katie Talbert (Louisville, Ky.) scored her first collegiate goal to finish the game.

The Crusaders travel to Harvard Sunday September 16 at 1:00 p.m.
