Worcester, Mass. - Harvard University's Jane Sackovich scored two goals and Jen McDavitt added another to lead the Crimson field hockey team to a 3-0 non-conference win over Holy Cross on Friday afternoon. Holy Cross falls to 2-4 on the season, while the Crimson stay perfect at 4-0 (1-0 Ivy League).
Sackovich scored what would be the game-winning goal for the Crimson with just 31 seconds remaining before halftime when she placed a shot past HC keeper Sony Kuhn (Cincinnati, Ohio), after a scuffle in front of the Crusader net.
Sackovich struck again just 2:02 into the second stanza when she took advantage of a defensive breakdown by the Crusaders, and gave the Crimson a 2-0 cushion with 32:58 remaining in the game. McDavitt then added an insurance goal with 6:29 left in the contest after an unassisted effort in front of the Holy Cross cage.
Kuhn finished the game with five saves on the afternoon, while Knoche completed her fourth shutout in as many games with three stops for Harvard. The Crimson enjoyed a 10-3 shot advantage and held a 4-1 edge in penalty corners.
Holy Cross travels to the University of New Hampshire for a 1:00 p.m. game in Durham, N.H., on Sunday.
