WORCESTER, Mass. - Sophomore Katie Talbert (Louisville, Ky.) scored two goals as the Holy Cross field hockey team blanked St. Francis, 5-0, in a non-conference game at the Hart Astrotruf Field.
Holy Cross took charge quickly as Talbert scored the first Crusader just two minutes into the game, assisted by senior Lauren Coletta (Mendon, Mass.). The Talbert-Coletta combination struck again with 18:54 left in the first half, giving the Crusaders' a 2-0 cushion over St. Francis.
Carrying the momentum into the second half, senior Sara O'Coin (Worcester, Mass.) notched her second goal of the season six minutes into the second half, assisted by senior Kim Powell (Chapel Hill, N.C.). With 12:59 left in the game, freshman Brittany Gildea (Warren, N.J.) boosted Holy Cross to a 4-0 lead, assisted by freshman Kara Gonnerman (St. Louis, Mo.).
A penalty corner with 6:10 left in the game set up by O'Coin allowed Eli Skovron to score (Exeter, N.H.) making the final 5-0.
The Crusaders have an overall record of 2-3 while St. Francis drops to 0-4.
The field hockey will host Harvard in their next game on Friday, September 14 at 7:00 p.m.
