Worcester, Mass. - Worcester, Mass. - Senior Susie Whelan scored with 0:01 left in the first half to give the Crusaders a lead they would never give up as Holy Cross beat Albany 2-0 Saturday afternoon at the Hart Astroturf.
Senior Tara Welch put the ball past Albany goalkeeper Ashley Ross with 8:05 left in the game, sealing the game for the Crusaders.
Welch's goal, her third of the season, moves her up to second on the list of most goals in a career with 43, surpassing Jenna Cook '06. Welch needs five goals to tie all time leader Michele Gagne '95.
Sophomore Erin Singleton stopped three shots for the Crusaders earning her second win of the season. Albany goalkeeper Ashley Ross made two saves for the Great Danes.
Holy Cross improves their overall record to 2-0. Albany dropped their second game of the season giving them a 2-2 record.
The Crusaders play host again on Sunday, September 3 against Boston College at 3:00 p.m.
