Worcester, Mass. - Five different goal scorers lifted Holy Cross field hockey to a 7-1 victory Tuesday night at the Hart Astroturf. Freshmen Kara Gonnerman (St. Louis, Mo.) and Brittany Gildea (Warren, N.J.) led the Crusader scoring, each scoring two goals.
Holy Cross struck early as Gonnerman scored her first goal of the game assisted by Courtney Callahan (Acton, Mass.), with 33:57 remaining in the first half. Jessie Cullen (Norwich, Vt.) scored the Crusaders second goal of a corner shot with Eli Skovron (Exeter, N.H.) and Katie Rowelenson (Webster, N.H.) both recording an assist. Alanna Sikorski (Glen Gardner, N.J.) notched the Crusaders' third goal of the half, assisted by Sara O'Coin (Worcester, Mass.). O'Coin scored the fourth Holy Cross goal unassisted with 5:54 left in the first half.
Lisa Heimerle (Smithtown, N.Y.) scored the lone Siena goal, assisted by Carli Atkinson.
Gildea scored her two goals back-to-back with just under four minutes left in the game. Her first goal, assisted by Lauren Coletta, gave the Crusaders a 6-1 cushion over Siena. Gildea notched her second goal unassisted with 58 seconds left on the clock.
Holy Cross begins the season with a 1-0 record while Siena starts off 0-1.
The Crusaders will travel to Boston College in a non-conference match-up on Sunday, September 2, at 1 p.m.
