2013 Field Hockey Senior Class Reflects On Four Years

2013 Seniors

What's up Crusader fans?! Though the field hockey team has been out of season for quite some time now, as 2013 draws to a close and we begin to reflect on the past year, we started to look back at our entire field hockey experience as a senior class. After sharing so many fun and memorable times together, we picked our favorites and posted them down below. Take a look and enjoy reminiscing on our experiences with us!

#5 Lindsay MacPhail
It is difficult to pick a favorite memory from the past four years. Four years is a lot of time and is filled with tons of memories but if I had to choose a more recent one, it would have to be our first game of the 2013 season against Siena. Being the opening game of the season, it was exciting to have our hard work finally put into action. However, things didn't exactly go as planned. We had a lightning delay for over two hours! Yet despite all of that craziness, we came out with a win. To be able to start our season off on the right foot, win on our home turf and push through after a very weird delay was a great feeling. This was the start of a new year, a new HCFH and a win that capped off a good season, marking four years of hard work that I was proud to be a part of.

#6 Carly Grimaudo It's hard to pin-point a favorite memory out of all the amazing times I've shared with my teammates and best friends over these four years. Looking back however, one particular moment stands out; defeating Bryant in a 2-1 overtime victory this past season, and our senior year. Since freshman year our team has always put up a great fight against the Bulldogs, but never walked away with the result we wanted. After a crushing overtime loss our junior year and bouncing back to defeat them in a spring scrimmage, we knew as seniors this was our last chance to beat them when it really counted. It was a great way to show the talent and desire of our 2013 team and it felt even better because Bryant was on a 7-0 win streak and looking to make program history by making the run 8-0 for the first time with a win over us. As an added bonus, I netted the overtime game-winner and before I knew it, my team sprinted over to celebrate in a full-on dog pile. Our class left behind everything we had for this team, and I couldn't ask for five better people to have spent my career with. #HCFH13

#8 Jess Dodakian Out of all the amazing memories I have from the past four years on the field hockey team, my favorite would have to be our senior game. Although it was a tough loss, I was so thankful to be able to celebrate the moment with my family and friends as well as my other family- Carly, Kelly, Jill, Lindsay and Katie and the rest of my teammates. Together, we all shared so many wonderful memories and I could not have asked for better teammates to spend my past four years with.

#11 Katie DeGennaro Being a student-athlete shaped me in more ways than I could ever describe. While I can't name one moment in particular that stood out as my absolute favorite, I can look back on the past years as a whole and really appreciate them. Being a part of a Division I team is like having both a job and a second family. The girls I met over these four years are lifetime friends. Through the ups and the downs my teammates, or coworkers rather, were there no matter what. We've formed an amazing bond together that we will share forever. I cannot wait to attend 20 plus weddings in the future.

#17 Kelly Burke Although it is hard to choose just one memory out of my four years as a member of the Holy Cross field hockey team, I would have to say that my favorite memory was beating Lehigh my junior year. The game was not only my first Patriot League win, but it was an exciting game that we won in overtime. Right from the beginning of the warm-up, I could tell that our team was ready to win. The game was very intense from beginning to end and after going back and forth with Lehigh, we went into the first overtime period tied 4-4. After Carly scored the game winning goal, I remember sprinting with the rest of the team towards the goal to celebrate the big win. It was nice to know that all our hard work in that game had paid off, and that we were able to start off the Patriot League season 1-0. The bus ride home was also a lot of fun because although it was a long drive back to Worcester, we spent the entire time singing as a team and enjoying the win.

#22 Jillian Caffrey There are so many amazing memories over the past four years of HCFH but the one that is my ultimate favorite is this year's trip to Washington, D.C. This trip was a whole weekend and even though we had back-to-back games we got to go sightseeing, that is until it started down pouring! Luckily thanks to the brilliant idea of Katie and I, we all bought tourist ponchos and continued on to the Lincoln Memorial. From walking barefoot through the rain to taking funny pics, the trip was an ultimate blast. We finished off the day with some Starbucks and then a delicious Italian dinner! What's better than that?!

A huge thank you to everyone who has been a part of our field hockey careers! We couldn't have done it without you and we will cherish these memories and friendships for the rest of our lives. Peace, Love & HCFH!
