Holy Cross Falls To Quinnipiac 1-0
WORCESTER, Mass. – Quinnipiac's Jennalise Taylor scored the only goal of the game, as the Bobcats posted a 1-0 victory over the Holy Cross field hockey team in the season opener for both squads at the Hart Turf Field. The Crusaders open the year at 0-1, while Quinnipiac starts the campaign at 1-0.
After the teams played to a scoreless tie for the majority of the first half, Taylor scored off a penalty corner with just 41 seconds left before the break. Haley Swartz took the penalty corner and passed the ball to Lauren Zimniski, who set up Taylor to make the score 1-0. Neither team would score again, as the Bobcats would hold on for the 1-0 victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kat Matchett (Maple Glen, Pa.) made five saves for Holy Cross while allowing only one goal. Nicole Lewis earned the victory for Quinnipiac, making six saves while posting a shutout.
The Bobcats outshot the Crusaders 16-11 on the day, and also held a 10-5 advantage in penalty corners.
Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 1, when it travels to Harvard for a 1:00 p.m. game.
