WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross senior field hockey player Kirsten Walther (Landenberg, Pa.) has been selected to the second annual Academic All-Patriot League team, as voted on by league sports information directors. To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport.
A member of the 2008, 2009 and 2010 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic squad, Walther made 16 starts in 18 appearances as a back this season. To date, Walther has made a total of 58 appearances, starting in 46 contests. She also has five defensive saves in her career, including a season-high three defensive saves during the 2011 season. Academically, she has a 3.78 grade point average and will graduate in May with a degree in English. She currently ranks in the top five percent of her class.
The Academic All-Patriot League team was added for all sports beginning in the 2010-2011 season to honor additional student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. The field hockey Academic All-Patriot League team has 11 student-athletes to equal the size of the sport's All-Patriot League first team.
