Field Hockey Picked Sixth In Patriot League Preseason Poll

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team was selected sixth in the 2011 Patriot League preseason poll as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors from around the league. American was picked to finish first for the ninth straight season, receiving 10 first-place votes.

American, coming off an eighth straight Patriot League Tournament title, earned the league-high 50 points. Lafayette was selected to finish second with 40 points and two first-place votes while Bucknell came in third with 36 points. Rounding out the voting was Colgate (22 points), Lehigh (18) and Holy Cross (14).

The 2011 Crusaders return seven starters, welcomes six newcomers and will be led by second-year head coach Zowie Tucker. The season kicks off on Friday, Aug. 26 when the team travels to Quinnipiac, taking on the Bobcats at 12:00 p.m.
