WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross field hockey head coach Zowie Tucker has announced that juniors Jamie Caniglia (Wayne, Pa.) and Rachael Miers (Langhorne, Pa.) have been named captains for the 2011 season. Sophomore Megan Bourne (Lake Forest, Ill.) joins Caniglia and Miers as a team vice captain.
Caniglia will be a senior midfielder in the fall. She has made a total of 53 appearances, including 48 starts. She has scored five goals and five assists in her career and started every contest as a sophomore and junior. Miers will be a senior midfielder and has three goals and one assist in her career. She also started every game for the Crusaders as a sophomore and junior. Bourne has played in a total of 28 games in her two-year career and registered her first career assist last season.
"It is my pleasure to announce Jamie Caniglia and Rachael Miers as the 2011 team captains and Megan Bourne as the team vice captain," said Tucker. "Each individual brings a leadership quality that is instrumental to the continued growth of our team. They continue to lead by example on and off the pitch and we feel each one of them brings a unique leadership style that compliments one another."
Holy Cross is now on break for the summer and resumes action on Aug. 26 at Quinnipiac for the 2011 season opener.
