WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross head field hockey coach Zowie Tucker has announced that six new players will join the Holy Cross program in the fall of 2011. Nina Batt (Marion, Mass.), Molly Feit (Acton, Mass.), Colby Lohrey (West Simsbury, Conn.), Kat Matchett (Maple Glen, Pa.), Mackenzie Peet (Rehoboth Beach, Del.) and Kellie Walsh (Andover, Mass.) will all play field hockey for the Crusaders.
"I'm excited to welcome our 2011 incoming class to Holy Cross," said Tucker. "Each player has a skill-set that can impact our team immediately this fall and we look forward to utilizing their talents. My goal is to develop their field hockey ability as well as provide them with a positive experience in their time here at Holy Cross."
Batt is a goalkeeper who played one season of varsity field hockey for Old Rochester Regional High School in Mattapoisett, Mass., forgoing her senior year of high school competition to join the MIT Minutemen Club field hockey program and train one-on-one with US Indoor National Team goalkeeper Donna Chung. As a junior, her high school team won the South Coast Conference championship and she earned the Coach's Golden Ball Award. She also plays for the Worcester County United Field Hockey Academy club team.
Feit is a forward who played four seasons of varsity field hockey for Acton-Boxborough High School in Acton, Mass. She was named captain and earned Dual County All-Star recognition as a senior. Her team won the Massachusetts State championship in 2007 and 2009 as well as the Dual County League championship in 2007, 2009 and 2010. She was also a Lowell Sun All-Star three years in a row (2008-2010). She also plays for the Cape Ann Coalition club team.
Lohrey is a midfielder/back who played four seasons of varsity field hockey for Simsbury High School in Simsbury, Conn. She was a two-time first team All-State and All-Conference selection (2009 & 2010) and captained her squad as a senior. She helped her team win the CIAC championship in three-consecutive years (2007-2009) and registered 23 goals and 84 assists during her career. She was also named first team All-Courant as a senior. She also plays for the Cape Ann Coalition club team.
Matchett is a goalkeeper who played four seasons of varsity field hockey for Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Flourtown, Pa. She won the 2008 Coach's Award and was named team captain for her senior season. In 2010, she was selected second team All-State after her team was crowned the Catholic Academy League champions and finished in the PIAA State AAA Tournament Final Four. Her team also won the AACA championship and ranked the Southeastern Pennsylvania's No. 1 team her senior year. She also plays for the Mystx Field Hockey Club.
Peet is a midfielder who played four varsity seasons of field hockey for St. Andrew's School in Middletown, Del. She was a two-time team captain (2009 & 2010) and a three-time team MVP (2008-2010). She was named second team All-Conference her freshman year and first team All-Conference her sophomore through senior seasons. She was a first team All-State selection her senior year and also played club field hockey for the New Jersey Intensity team, who won the Gold Medal, Pool F-Festival in 2009. She also plays for the New Jersey Intensity club team.
Walsh is a back who played varsity field hockey for Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. She helped her team go undefeated in 2009 and earning a No. 1 ranking in Class A's. She captained her team as a senior and was named an Eagle Tribune All-Star in 2009. She also plays for the Cape Ann Coalition White Festival team.
