Five Field Hockey Players Named To 2010 NFHCA Academic Squad

WORCESTER, Mass. Five members of the Holy Cross field hockey team were selected to the 2010 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association today. The entire 2010 Holy Cross field hockey team earned the National Academic Team Award as well for achieving a team GPA of over 3.0.

Junior Kirsten Walther (Landenberg, Pa.), sophomores Emily Allen (Lee, N.H.), Courtney Downes (Hanover, N.J.) and Lizzie McManus (Havertown, Pa.) as well as freshman Lindsay MacPhail (Goffstown, N.H.) were all named to the academic squad after posting a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2010-2011 academic year. Walther earns the award for the third straight year. The team picks up the National Academic Team Award for the fourth consecutive year.

A total of 58 NCAA Division I field hockey programs boasted a team GPA of over 3.0 during the 2010 field hockey season. Northwestern posted the highest GPA of all competitors, as the squad combined for a 3.54 GPA.
