WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross junior field hockey player Kirsten Walther (Landenberg, Pa.) has been selected to the inaugural Academic All-Patriot League team, as voted on by league sports information directors. To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport.
A member of the 2008 and 2009 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic squad, Walther made 14 starts in 15 appearances as a back this season. To date, Walther has made a total of 40 appearances, starting in 30 contests. She also has two defensive saves in her career. Academically, she has a 3.75 grade point average and is majoring in English. She was recently chosen as an Alpha Sigma Nu member, achieved by ranking within the top 15 percent of the junior class.
The Academic All-Patriot League team has been added for all sports beginning in the 2010-2011 season to honor additional student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. The field hockey Academic All-Patriot League team has 11 student-athletes to equal the size of the sport's All-Patriot League first team.
