BETHLEHEM, Pa. Senior Breezy Rush (Denville, N.J.) scored her second goal in two games but could not lift her team to a victory as the Holy Cross field hockey squad fell against Lehigh, 2-1, at the Ulrich Sports Complex. With the loss, the Crusaders wrap up their season with a 0-17 record (0-5 Patriot League) while Lehigh ends its season with a 3-13 overall record (1-4 Patriot League). Rush finishes her career with three goals, two of them coming in the final games of her senior season.

Lehigh tallied the first score of the game at 27:18 as Kimberly Eng snuck a shot past sophomore goalie Kelly Sotsky (Wayne, N.J.) from the end line. Holy Cross would once again hold the shots edge, however, going into the halftime with an 8-5 advantage on shots but no goals to show. Sotsky made two saves in the first 35 minutes while Lehigh's starting goalie, Jessica Miller, made four.

The Mountain Hawks went up 2-0 at 47:37 as a scramble in front of the cage allowed Lehigh's Caitlin Donnelly to backhand a shot into the goal. Less than a minute later, Rush halved the Mountain Hawks' lead, knocking in a pass by junior Jamie Caniglia (Wayne, Pa.) at 48:05 to bring the score to 2-1. Lehigh upped its defensive and offensive pressure the rest of the way, as Holy Cross was unable to score again, falling by the final 2-1 tally. Lehigh's substitute goalie, Lilia Stefaniwsky, came up big for the team as well, making seven saves to preserve the win.

In all, the Crusaders held a 16-14 shots advantage as freshman Jillian Caffrey (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) led the squad with four shots taken. Holy Cross also held the penalty corners edge, 7-2. Sotsky finished with a total of five saves while Stefaniwsky and Miller combined for 11 saves in their win. Senior Alanna Sikorski (Glen Gardner, N.J.) finished her career strongly as well, making a defensive save to bring her season total to six.

With the day's result, the Holy Cross field hockey team has now completed the 2010 season.
