WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross field hockey program has announced that senior Alanna Sikorski (Glen Gardner, N.J.) will captain the 2010 squad while fellow seniors Kara Gonnerman (St. Louis, Mo.) and Breezy Rush (Denville, N.J.) will serve as vice captains.
"I am very happy with our leadership group and the role they will take on within the team," said head coach Zowie Tucker. "They have been dedicated and great role models this pre season and have maintained a positive and enthusiastic attitude. Their focus and drive will be instrumental this season."
Sikorski started in 17 games last season, scoring five goals and notching two assists for 12 points. She ranked second on the squad in goals, assists and points. Gonnerman appeared in all 18 games, making 16 starts and finished the season with two goals and two assists for six points, ranking in the top five on the team in points. Rush started in all 18 games and led the team with six defensive saves. She also ranked second on the team with 36 interceptions and third with 30 tackles.
The team will travel to play the University of Victoria in an exhibition game at Harvard's Jordan Field at 6:00 p.m. on Aug. 31. The regular season kicks off on Sept. 4 as the Crusaders travel back to Harvard to take on the Crimson at 1:00 p.m.
