Field Hockey Picked Fifth In Patriot League Preseason Poll
WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team was selected to finish fifth in the 2010 Patriot League preseason poll as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors from around the league. American was picked to finish first for the eighth straight season, receiving 10 first-place votes.
American, coming off a seventh straight Patriot League Tournament title, earned the league-high 50 points. Lafayette was selected to finish second with 40 points and one first-place vote while Bucknell came in third with 34 points and one first-place vote. Rounding out the voting was Lehigh (25 points), Holy Cross (21) and Colgate (10).
The Crusaders finished last season with a 4-14 overall record, going 2-3 in league play. The 2010 squad returns six starters, welcomes six newcomers and will be led by first-year head coach Zowie Tucker. The team will travel to play the University of Victoria in an exhibition game at Harvard's Jordan Field at 6:00 p.m. on Aug. 31. The regular season kicks off on Sept. 4 when the team travels back to Harvard to take on the Crimson at 1:00 p.m.
