Five Field Hockey Players Named To 2009 NFHCA National Academic Squad
WORCESTER, Mass. – Five members of the Holy Cross field hockey team were selected to the 2009 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association today. The entire 2009 Holy Cross field hockey team earned the National Academic Team Award as well for achieving a team GPA of over 3.0.
Seniors Katie Aylward (Watertown, Mass.), Kaitlyn Barnes (Honesdale, Pa.), Kelly Casey (New Egypt, N.J.), and sophomores Amanda McGavick (Sudbury, Mass.) and Kirsten Walther (Landenberg, Pa.) were all named to the academic squad after posting a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2009-2010 academic year. Walther and Casey earn the award for the second time, as Walther picked up the honor last year and Casey earning the honor in 2006. The team picks up the National Academic Team Award for the third consecutive year.
The Crusaders will open up spring competition with their annual Holy Cross Play Day, held on March 28. Local competitors Bryant, Sacred Heart and Siena will all participate with the games going from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on the Hart Turf Field.
