WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team held its annual team banquet on Sunday, Jan. 31 to top off the 2009 season. Four team awards were given out and included team MVP, Most Improved Team Player, Rookie of the Year and the Unsung Hero award. All honors were voted on by the team.
Senior Kaitlyn Barnes (Honesdale, Pa.) was named team MVP; awarded to the player whom the team depended on the most to lead on the field. Junior Breezy Rush (Denville, N.J.) was named the most improved team player; awarded to the player who had shown the most improvement over a season. She wins the award for the second consecutive year.
Freshman Lizzie McManus (Havertown, Pa.) was named the Rookie of the Year; awarded to the player who was considered the best of the freshmen class, had the most to offer on the field and contributed the most in her level of play. Senior Nora Happny (Porstmouth, N.H.) earned the Unsung Hero honor; awarded to the hardest working and most inspirational player.
The 2009 Holy Cross field hockey team finished with a 4-14 overall record and went 2-3 in Patriot League play. The team finished fifth in the Patriot League and posted a 3-7 home record while going 1-7 on the road.
