WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross field hockey senior co-captains Kaitlyn Barnes (Honesdale, Pa.) and Courtney Callahan (Acton, Mass.) have been named to the 2009 first and second team All-Patriot League squads respectively, announced by the league. Barnes earns the honor for the first tim e in her career while Callahan takes home second team accolades for the second-consecutive year.
Bar nes has played in every game over her Holy Cross career. She led the squad in both interceptions (40) and tackles (46) for the second straight season and also recorded four defensive saves this season, a career-high. She also registered four assists, leading to the most points she has tallied in a Crusader's uniform.
Callahan, who scored her ninth goal of the season against Brown in the team's non-conference finale, completes the year as the offensive leader, scoring nine goals and tallying one assist for a team-leading 19 points. Her nine goals are a career-high for a single season and her 19 points are also a career-high. She ends the campaign in a tie for fifth in the Patriot League in goals and ninth in points.
Over their four years, Barnes and Callahan have helped the field hockey team win 31 games, including 10 in the Patriot League. The 2009 team rounded out the season with a 4-14 overall record, going 2-3 in the league.
